Inclusive job ad structure

Use this structure to write a clear job ad that more people can understand and respond to.

Tip: print this page or copy the text into your own document.

  1. Job title: use a plain, common title, not an internal one.
  2. About us: two sentences about what you do and who they will work with.
  3. What you will do: three to six concrete daily tasks.
  4. What you need: only the essentials. Leave out degrees, driving licences and years of experience unless they are truly needed.
  5. What we offer: pay, hours, location, training and support.
  6. How to apply: at least two ways, such as a short form, a phone call or a visit, with a named contact.
  7. Inclusion statement: we welcome applicants with disabilities, health conditions and gaps in their CV, and we make adjustments during recruitment and at work.

Turn this into your own plan

Choose your type of business and who you are hiring, and get one checklist that tracks your progress, plus a tracker for each new hire's first six months.
