* Young people set to benefit from fully funded jobs as government continues to tackle UK’s persistently high disability employment gap.
The UK Department for Work and Pensions announced on 27 September 2026 a groundbreaking Jobs Guarantee for young people with disabilities or long-term health conditions. From April 2027, eligible individuals will receive a guaranteed job offer from the 13th week after their work capability assessment. The government will cover 100% of wage costs for up to 25 hours per week for six months, and employers will receive an additional £3,000 payment per placement. The measure is part of a wider £3.5 billion reform, with £2.5 billion directed to a broader youth guarantee. According to the 2026 Alan Milburn Interim Report, 45% of NEET young people in the UK now have a disability, up from 21.1% in 2013/14. This is one of the most generous disability wage subsidy schemes announced in Europe and directly addresses the widening disability employment gap of 29.4%.
